Scary World of Vampire Books for Kids

I have never been a fan of vampire books for kids as I am too scared to read stories for kids that are filled with blood sucking creatures and ugly monsters. This is why I am amazed by the ever increasing popularity of these types of kids books. No matter where you look, you are most likely to see kids who are fascinated by these books. The gorier the text and the pictures in vampire books for kids, the more the children seem to enjoy these books! I obviously cannot understand why this is so, but who am I to get in between kids and the things they find captivating!

If I try hard, I can begin to wrap my head around interactive reading games that include witches and monsters. In fact, I can even get used to stories for kids that have some element of fantasy creatures who are out to destroy the world. But no matter how hard I try, I just cannot get myself to pick up any vampire books for kids! After all, who has the strength to thumb through an entire book in which gruesome creatures are constantly leaping out at you. Imagine wanting to read some tales about a blood thirsty monster who lures his victims on false pretences only because he wants to suck all the blood from their bodies! Gosh, even thinking of such things makes me shiver and sends goose bumps through my entire body, let alone exposing myself to such stories for kids.

Since I was so terrified of these characters and such books, I thought my daughter would be too. After all, she does have my genes and her taste in reading material should be similar to mine, right? The answer was a big ‘No!’ Not only was she extremely fascinated by vampire books for kids, but unfortunately for me, her fascination bordered on obsession! Every minute of every waking hour was spent reading about vampires. If I told her to read some stories for kids, the first thing she would pick up was a vampire book. If I told her to learn some new concepts from her stock of interactive reading games, then the only genre she reached for was horror!

Here she was simply awestruck by horror stories for kids and vampire books instead of being scared silly by them. And here I was in horror at her choice in books and games and could not understand who she got this from! But instead of telling her not to read vampire books for kids at all, because that would only make her read them more, I tried to get her involved in other exciting activities and interactive reading games that were not as repulsive as vampires.
